Manually Vacuuming a Pool

IN-GROUND POOLS

To vacuum an in-ground pool, do the following:
STEP 1: Attach vacuum head to the pole.
STEP 2: Attach vacuum hose to the vacuum head on the end of the pole.
STEP 3: Submerge vacuum hose and head into the pool.
STEP 4: Push air out of the hose by feeding it down through the water, or just simply hold one end over a pool return while filtering to fill it with water.
STEP 5: Turn off pump. Empty pump hair & lint basket if necessary.
STEP 6: Turn off main drain valve, and if you have two skimmers, turn off the skimmer you are not using to vacuum.
STEP 7: Position a vacuuming plate in the skimmer and attach hose to the plate, or you can attach the vacuum hose to the suction hole found at the bottom of the skimmer.
STEP 8: With the filter in the filter position, turn pump back on and begin vacuuming. (Note: If you have flocked or there is a considerable amount of debris on the pool floor, you may need to put the filter in pump to waste position. This pumps water directly out of the pool and out your waste hose.)

You may need to backwash the filter while or after vacuuming if it becomes full of dirt or debris. Be sure to turn off pump before changing any filter positions.

ABOVE-GROUND POOLS

To vacuum an above-ground pool, do the following:
STEP 1: Attach vacuum head to the pole.
STEP 2: Attach vacuum hose to the vacuum head on the end of the pole.
STEP 3: Submerge vacuum hose and head into the pool.
STEP 4: Push air out of the hose by feeding it down through the water, or just simply hold one end over a pool return while filtering to fill it with water.
STEP 5: Turn off pump. Empty pump hair & lint basket if necessary.
STEP 6: Attach vacuum hose into the vacuum port found beneath the main skimmer face plate. If you have a Doughboy pool, place skimmer lid over skimmer basket. If you do not have a vacuum port, you may attach the vacuum hose to the suction hole found at the bottom of the skimmer or you can use a vacuum plate placed over the skimmer basket. (Note: You may need a hose fitting to attach the vacuum hose to the skimmer, which may be purchased at Ultra Modern Pool & Patio.)
STEP 7: With the filter in the filter position, turn pump back on and begin vacuuming. (Note: If you have flocked or there is a considerable amount of debris on the pool floor, you may need to put the filter in pump to waste position. This pumps water directly out of the pool and out your waste hose.)
