How to Buy a Hot Tub

We want to help you make an informed buying decision when purchasing a new hot tub. In this article, we’re going to talk about how to buy a hot tub.

The first thing we’ll explain is the difference between the terms: hot tub and spa.

Hot Tub or Spa

These terms are often used interchangeably. Spas and hot tubs are similar in that both use swirling water and therapeutic heat to soak and massage sore muscles and painful joints.

Historically hot tubs are made of wood, and the bubbling water comes from under and around the seats. Spas are usually constructed of material other than wood, and the bubbling water comes directly from floor and seat.

Actually in most spa models today, there are not any air channels with holes in the seats because of its effect on cooling off the water in the spa too quickly.

So, today the swirling bubbling water comes from the variety of jets, the number of jets and the placement of jets.

If you’ve decided it’s time to buy a hot tub, take time to weigh the best value for your budget within the portable hot tub or spa categories. (Portable is a self-contained freestanding unit that can be moved from one location to another.) Now it’s on to how to find the right fit.

Getting the Right FIT

Ask yourself how many people will use your hot tub at any give time. How much space do you have for the tub itself? These are important questions when deciding hot tub size.

You’ll spend a lot of time in your spa, so seating comfort is very important. Make sure you sit in the spa before purchasing. We also recommended you “wet test” the spa to really decide how comfortable it will be for you, your family and friends.

Pay attention to the following comfort factors: seating depth and variety, foot-well space, lounge fit, access to hot tub controls, ease of entry and exit, and cushioned headrests.

Choosing Hot Tub THERAPY

Do you want a powerful hydromassage, or do you mostly want a hot tub for soaking? If you want the ultimate hydromassage experience, think about the types of jets and jet placement. You’ll want to look at jet variety and their placement within the seats.

Your best hydrotherapy comes in tubs that address all of your major muscle groups. Also consider the adjustability of the jets.
