Summer Decorating Ideas for Your Backyard

We’ve arrived. Summer is here, and many of you are spending more time outside. This means you need some summer decorating ideas!

While it’s common to decorate the inside of your home for the changing of the seasons, it’s a great idea to carry this inspiration outside.

If, like us, you spend a lot of time in your backyard with family and friends, you’ll want to check out these summer decorating ideas for your backyard!

Add Bright Colors

Flowers are in bloom, so carry these vibrant, bold colors into the fabrics on your chairs and sofas. You can add colorful throw pillows in bright textures and patterns.

Our favorites: turquoise, yellow, lime green, pink, and orange. We love stripes, florals, and patterns.

Summer is about joy and happiness so use this to choose colors for your furniture fabric, pillows, and even rugs.

Illuminate Your Backyard

Let’s face it, sometimes it’s nicer in the backyard in the evening, so you want to add some lighting.

The best thing about lighting at night is it adds ambiance and a certain coziness to your patio or deck.

You can string lights (think the modern globe style), you can add tiki lights or even lamps or column lights.

Consider hanging lights in your trees as well to transform your space into a fairy garden.

Add Textures with Patio Furniture

Use the textures of your chosen patio furniture to set the tone for your backyard.

For example, if you like a more modern look choose metal or aluminum. If you want a more beach-like, tropical vibe, choose rattan or bamboo. Daybeds are fun, too. You can also add patio furniture from Ledge Lounger right into your swimming pool.

Experiment with different styles of patio furniture as well. There’s so much more than the traditional table and chairs. Consider loveseats, swings, and more.

Control the Bugs

The bugs in Kansas are annoying on a good day! You want to do what you can to keep the mosquitos out of your backyard.

You can do it organically by planting insect repellent plants such as basil, lavender, and geraniums. Or, you can try citronella candles, patio shields, diffuser, mosquito zappers, and more.

Add a Patio Umbrella

Another one of our favorite summer decorating ideas is the patio umbrella. This is a must in the Kansas heat.

You’ll find many choices at Ultra Modern for patio umbrellas. Not only do they add a touch of glamour to your backyard, they are important for helping you cool off.

Patio umbrellas provide shade and a cooler area to hang out.

Add a Day Bed

One of our favorite additions to your backyard is a day bed or patio swing. Stop by to see your choices today!

Day beds and patio swings provide a touch of luxury to your backyard retreat. Just imagine resting on one outside while you read a great book under the string lights?

Set it next to your pool or hot tub for some extra ambiance, too!
