How To Keep Your Pool Cool

Sweltering, sticky, sweaty – these are just a few of the words that describe the weather in Wichita and the surrounding area. We bet you can’t wait to “beat the heat” by taking a dip in your swimming pool. But, what if your pool isn’t cool?

While bombarding your pool with large blocks of ice may reduce the temperature, it certainly is cost prohibitive and only temporary.

In this article, we look at how to keep your pool cool.

Add a Water Feature

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to cool your pool is to add a water feature: a swimming pool water fountain! It accelerates the cooling process.

Using an effect reminiscent of old water cooling towers on buildings. The fountain sprays water into the air, and a bit of it evaporates. This draws heat out of the rest of the water and cools it down.

Run your fountain at night to circulate the water while the temperature is lower. Plus, not only can you lower your pool’s temperature, but the fountain will turn your pool into a tropical oasis, and the kids love them!

Run Your Pump at Night

You can also try to cool your swimming pool by a few degrees by simply circulating your swimming pool water at night. When you add a fountain to this process, you lower the temperature even more!

Remove Landscaping

Do you have trees or plants blocking the air flow around your pool? If so, remove any obstacles that block the breeze from blowing across the surface of your pool.

Drain and Refill

Another way to keep your pool cool is to replace some or all of your pool water with cold water. Simply draining and refilling a little bit can reduce the temperature.

Do be careful, though. If your water source is warm, you’re not doing anything special for your swimming pool. The water you add must be colder than what’s in the pool.

Don’t forget to test your water and re-balance your chemicals after doing this, though!

Final Thoughts

Summer is our favorite time of year, and the swimming pool adds a lot to our enjoyment. One of the best ways to cool down in Kansas heat is a dip in the pool.
