4 Ways to Conserve Chlorine in Your Hot Tub

We’ve talked a lot about how to conserve chlorine in your swimming pool, but what about your hot tub?

First, the chlorine shortages you’ve heard us talk about are only referring to the chlorine you use in your swimming pool. There is a difference between the types used in pools and hot tubs.

While chlorine is at the top of every pool owner’s mind, let’s look at four ways to conserve chlorine in your hot tub. If you don’t love chlorine, here are our favorite tips for using less!

#1: Make Sure Your pH is Balanced

We sure hope you test your hot tub water on a regular basis. If you don’t, consider this an important reminder.

Just like with swimming pool water, the only way to keep your water clean, clear, and safe for soaking is to test it so you know what to add.

Your spa water should always be sanitized and balanced.

If your pH is too high, your chlorine won’t be nearly as effective. In fact, it’s ability to kill bacteria is greatly reduced.

If your pH is out of balance, your soakers end up with eye irritation, dry and itchy skin, and odors.

Bottom line: test your pH levels and your alkalinity on a regular basis.

#2: Install an Ozone System

If you don’t have one, consider buying one. If you have one, consider replacing it if it isn’t working well. (You can ask us if you need a new one – we can help!)

With an ozone system, you can minimize your chlorine use because it oxidizes contaminants in your water. You also don’t have to spend as much time balancing your water because your ozone system helps keep your pH neutral.

In addition, use a silver ion cartridge to give your water a little boost.

#3: Use an @ease System

We like this system because it dispenses supplemental chlorine into your water in the perfect amount. It works to help keep your water sanitized.

#4: Use the FreshWater® Salt System

If you don’t have a hot tub, and you’re looking for a new one, make sure it has the FreshWater® Salt System found on HotSpring Spas and Caldera Spas.

The revolutionary FreshWater® Salt System takes the work and worry right out of water care. This innovative, intuitive system provides better water with less hassle. This way you can spend more time feeling renewed, restored, and reconnected with your loved ones.

This is salt water technology in a friendly to use system. It generates natural chlorine from the salt, and you’ll love the fresh water feel!
