Buyer’s Guide to Fire Pits

Everyone needs a good buyer’s guide!

At Ultra Modern, we love fire pits. Fire isn’t just for warmth. It’s mesmerizing and comforting. It adds beauty and ambiance to your backyard, and this is why we love fire pits.

Not only are they great places for conversation, but they’re also a gathering spot in your outdoor living area.

What’s more, fire pits are a great way to create a focal point in your backyard. You’ll find a fire pit is a natural magnet for the old and young alike.

With many different styles, features, and brands, we invite you to check out our buyer’s guide to fire pits. Then stop by one of our three stores to check our fire pits out in person.

Fire Pit Shapes

Fire pits generally come in three shapes: square, rectangle, and circle.

A square table works well if you want four people to be able to sit around it or even some deep seating sofas and chairs where you can add a few more people. You’ll find this is a cozy intimate setting.

A circular table allows a larger group to sit around the table. It also allows them all to face each other.

A rectangular table is great in front of a sofa or a loveseat. You’ll find many people can sit around this fire pit table. You can also use it for added dining space when not lit.

Fire Pit Heights

Fire pits also come in a variety of heights to suit your particular outdoor setting.

The occasional height comes in around 19 inches tall, and at the lowest height, you’ll find you can still put deep seating around it.

The chat height is around 24 inches. People can sit around this table and be eye to eye for a casual, intimate conversation.

At 29 inches tall, the dining height can double as a place to dine when you add dining chairs around it.

The tallest fire pit, at around 38 inches, is counter height. The counter height fire pit is perfect if your guests will be standing or sitting in tall chairs or barstools.

Fire Pit Placement

The next thing to consider is the placement of your fire pit.

This is an important consideration because you want your fire pit to bring people together. So, you want to place it where a larger area encourages people to spend time together.

Here are some general guidelines for placement. You will need to consider the size and shape of your own backyard, deck, or patio, too.

  • Make sure the edge of your fire pit is at least 10 feet away from structures.
