As the weather heats up, more of you are out enjoying your pool. Here’s a reminder on the five essential keys to pool care…

Remember that each of these keys is important for proper pool care. Consider each key as a simple, preventative maintenance step. Pool care is easy when you have a plan for routine maintenance and use the highest quality products!

#1: Circulation

You must circulate your pool water to maximize your sanitizer’s effectiveness. The more the water is in motion, the harder it is for bacteria and algae to grow and take hold. Debris is also pushed out and captured by your filter during circulation. The best time to circulate the water is during the day for about 12 hours or more.

#2: Filtration

Your filter is one of your most important pieces of equipment!

You want to backwash (clean by the removing of material trapped on or in the filter media) regularly during pool season. You also want to do this when the water pressure in the filter reaches eight to 10 psi above normal. Make sure to check your manufacturer’s guidelines.

Chemically treat your filters to remove the oil and debris that backwashing doesn’t catch. Check with us to establish a maintenance schedule.

#3: Cleaning

Your filter doesn’t catch everything. Some pools have areas with little to no circulation, and this is where problems happen. Brush and vacuum your wall and floors at least once a week to catch the debris that your filter misses.

#4: Testing

Every pool has characteristics you want to regularly measure and adjust. Your pH and sanitizer levels are the most important factors to check.

Test your water two to three times per week with heavy to typical usage. Additionally, bring us your water for a free test when you open and close your pool and every four to six weeks during the season. This keeps your pool in check.

#5: Chemistry

The last key in pool care is applying the right products at the right time. Follow the steps provided by us for welcoming, brilliant and sparkling water. You also protect your swimmers from disease transmission, you protect your pool equipment and surfaces. Balanced water is healthy water.
