Decoding Water Balance

You know it’s important to keep your water balanced. It’s key to healthy, clear, and comfortable water, and it’s key to protecting your pool surfaces and equipment. What’s more, it makes your other pool chemicals work better together.

The bottom line is that you want to balance your water to prevent problems. There are several chemicals that work to balance your water:

• Pool Stabilizer
• Calcium Hardness Increaser

What is a Stabilizer?

You add this chemical to make sure your pool can maintain its chlorine levels. A stabilizer also slows down the rate at which your pool eats up your existing chlorine.

Stabilizers come from a chemical compound called cyanuric acid (CYA), and they come in several forms. You add this chemical to protect your pool from the sun’s UV (ultraviolet rays). You can think of CYA as “sunscreen for your pool.”

Unlike your chlorine that evaporates from the water, CYA doesn’t evaporate.

It stays in your pool until your pool is backwashed, drained, water has splashed out, or it has rained a lot.

It’s important to test your water to see just how much stabilizer you need.
